As a minimally invasive pain management treatment, epidural steroid injections (ESI) are an alternative to surgical procedures that alleviate discomfort in muscles, back, neck, legs, and joints. These injections consist of anti-inflammatory medication or a corticosteroid and a specific type of numbing solution. The injections effectively diminish the pain that can be caused by a number of conditions, including:
- Disc Herniation
- Nerve Impingement
- Arthritis
- Spinal stenosis
Additionally, ESIs are an effective procedure for patients who do not want to undergo surgery. This treatment may be an initial therapy before pursuing more advanced treatment options, including minimally invasive lumbar decompression or spinal cord stimulation, while still avoiding surgery. At Pain Zero, our team is dedicated to helping patients improve their quality of life. Please schedule an appointment, and learn more about epidural steroid injections (ESI).
What to Expect from ESI Treatment
As a non-operative and effective treatment, we administer epidural steroid injections at our office in a private treatment room. During your appointment, our expert pain management doctors at Pain Zero will prepare the area with a local anesthetic. We will use advanced imaging technology to allow us to properly place the needle. Next, we administer the ESI directly into the area that causes pain.
Following the injections, our physicians will monitor you for a short time then release you to resume everyday activities. Our group recommends arranging transportation as you should avoid driving for the next 12-24 hours. In most cases, patients may feel mild discomfort after the treatment, but please call us immediately if you start to experience any allergic reactions. If you are sore, apply a cold compress to help alleviate discomfort. Secondary treatments are typically spaced apart as results can last for weeks to years.
If the ESI provides inadequate relief, our physicians can offer alternative therapies two weeks from the procedure to allow time for the medication to take effect or decide collectively to pursue other therapies.
Discussions about treatment and care plans will be discussed before and after each intervention.

Staff is very nice. Dr is very nice and to the point.
Antonius really went the extra mile with my care today - even helping with unexpected knee swelling. I'm grateful.
Once again, Dr. Harris zeroed in on the cause of my newest pain & came up with a solution to alleviate it for me. He is a gifted Dr.
I saw Dr.T today for my first consult appointment. I will be honest, I went in extremely apprehensive. I was expecting to be shrugged off, but it was anything but that! I was given so much information, I was given options for medications or creams, I was told that they can provide supportive care instead of bandaid treatments. I was so impressed, honestly. The doctor was very knowledgeable and personable. He listened to me and made me feel heard. I'm looking forward to working with them to help my pain.
