A discogram or commonly referred to as a discography is a diagnostic test that uses advanced medical imaging and a contrast solution to assess the underlying cause of spinal pain. Generally, a discogram is for patients who suffer from chronic pain and have tried all other procedures, including physical therapy and pain medication, to reduce the pain.

A discogram is different from other types of medical examinations because it gives a complete overview of your spine and identifies the precise location of your pain. At Pain Zero in Central Ohio, we use discogram diagnostic testing to figure out the primary cause of your painful symptoms. To schedule an appointment, please call one of our convenient locations in Central Ohio.

A discogram is performed on-site, and a member of our team can usually complete the test in about 30 minutes to an hour. Before the test begins, our practitioners ask patients to lie on top of an x-ray table with their back facing upward. To help determine the issue, a member of our team will inject a contrast dye into a specific part of your spinal cord.

Using advanced x-ray technology, our team takes multiple images of your spinal cord to identify the damage or look for any fractures. After completing the discogram, we monitor you for a brief period to ensure you are ready to safely leave and return home. For the next couple of days, you could feel some tenderness near the injection point; however, this should stop after a few days.
