What Is Pediatric Pain?
Pain affects a child's mood, school performance, family life, and sleep. When a child suffers, this suffering disrupts family life. The child may also become isolated and depressed.
Pain in children typically results from an injury, chronic illness, or surgery. Causes include musculoskeletal injuries, abdominal pain, sore throat, earaches, headaches, and other stresses. Nerve pain may also come from genetic illnesses or other conditions, such as cerebral palsy, sickle cell disease, or metabolic and hereditary diseases.
Pain Zero in Central Ohio offers hope to children and families who are coping with chronic pain and wanting to return to daily living without the disorder.
Treatment of Pediatric Pain
Pain Zero takes a holistic approach to pain care in children and teens. At your appointment, our pain specialists will take a comprehensive evaluation, which includes a full history of all the symptoms and signs of chronic pain, an assessment of pain in terms of the 10-point pain scale, and how it affects the child's quality of life, school experience, and relationships within the family.
After this initial evaluation, our team will develop a personalized treatment plan which could include medication or certain procedures to block or reduce pain along with complementary therapies, such as psychotherapy, biofeedback, physical or occupational therapy, acupuncture, yoga, or massage.
During treatment, further assessments are necessary to measure pain but also to monitor any side effects from medications.
